About us

The 1691 Royal Canadian Army Cadets is a youth led teen group that is provided for by the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), The Army Cadet League of Canada and our local community.  Teens from 12 to 18 participate in various activities at the Barracks Green Armory in Saint John,  as well as offsite events. Activities can involve camping, fitness, drill, band, cooking and more.  Our professional instructors strive to lead the senior cadets to train junior ranks in life skills and leadership. The cadets plan and execute classes during regular training days and run the sports nights.  Cadets are evaluated regularly and have the opportunity to consistently “rank up” throughout the year.  Building self-confidence and pride. As a cadet ranks up roles, responsibilities and expectations may change as well as opportunities. Cadets will have opportunities to do bigger competitions, expeditions and even apply for staff positions as they progress.

Regular training happens every Tuesday from 1800-2100 (6pm until 9pm) from September through June.  Outside of the school year, CAF offers many opportunities for cadets to join though the summer with a variety of summer training programs.  In some cases, even sending cadets across Canada to perfect their skills or teach other cadets.

All costs are covered for cadets.  This program is 100% free with equal opportunities for all cadets.
